Women supporting other women happens all the time on social media – and that’s awesome – but here’s a chance to do so face-to-face. I am emceeing this event and really hoping, when I'm not snacking and drinking, to get inspired through women’s actual voices and stories.

Building Brave Milwaukee invites 56 young professional women to connect with women leaders in the community and hear the secrets of their success. The event takes place at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

"The Building Brave mission is simple. We want every woman to believe in her abilities and potential and to define success based on her own core values," says Mary Burke, CEO and founder of Building Brave.

In 2014, Burke ran against Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and lost by six points. Although the loss was crushing for a period of time, Burke bounced back with a new passion. Through Building Brave, Burke's efforts now are focused on empowering others, particularly women.

The eight featured women in Milwaukee’s Building Brave event are Griselda Aldrete, president of the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee; Linda Benfield, a managing partner at Foley & Lardner; Mary Beth Berkes, a principal investor with The Shorewood Group; Patty Cadorin, senior advisor for BMO Harris Bank; Ellen Gilligan, the president and CEO of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation; Lisa Maurer, president of Rickert Industries and Thelma Sias, a retired executive from WEG/Wisconsin Energy Group Community Relations. Burke will also speak at the event.

"I started Building Brave to connect women around the world in a community of inspiration, support and empowerment. Every woman who attends the event, including myself, will leave feeling energized and a part of a powerful community. Everything’s easier with a team of support, right?" says Burke.

The cost is $20 and includes a glass of wine, appetizers and a swag bag. For tickets, go here.
