{image1}President Bush will visit Milwaukee on Thursday at an event hosted by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC). Given the opportunity, what would you like to say to him?

E-mail us at soundoff@staff.onmilwaukee.com and if picked, we'll post your response next Sunday. Only submissions that include your full name and where you live will be considered.

Last week's question: Is "The Gold" a good team name for Marquette? (Apparently even Marquette didn't think so!)

As a Marquette Alum and 20 year season ticket holder I can't help but feel embarrasment for the first time in my long association with the University. While I was and always will be a "Warrior" I had come to a reasonable acceptance of Golden Eagles -- though I never bought any merchandise with the Eagle logo. This "Gold" fiasco, however, has me not only questioning the committment of the University to its traditions but also with the integrity and honesty of the leadership of the University. Throughout this process the University has decieved and lied to the very people who support it the most. They have placed us in the uncomfortable position of not being able to even defend our University much less openly embrace it. What a sad turn of events.

What were they thinking! I didn't think it could get much worse than the Golden Eagles. But the trustees managed it. Bring back the Warriors! I have Native American friends and they all think it is ridiculous.

I am an MU alum from the last year MU was known as The Warriors. l did not like it when they changed it to Golden Eagles, but at least that nickname made some sense and the students were able to have some sort of identity. "The Gold" means nothing to me.

I think "The Gold" is a perfect name for Marquette. It's a perfect representation of how spineless the University is. Marquette is so afraid of the prospect of offending someone that they picked the most bland weak name they could come up with. Not at all unlike the way they schedule for Men's Basketball. They are too afraid to schedule UWM or UWGB, two of the four D-1 schools in the state. Instead they trot out heavy hitters like Elon, Oakland University and Sacred Heart and various D-1AA schools to pad their schedule. Congratulations Marquette, your new name is a perfect match!
