A release posted by Alderman Tony Zielinski this afternoon indicates that Café Corazón’s owners, George and Wendy Mireles, have scheduled a tentative grand opening for their new Bay View location for Thursday, Feb. 11.
The new restaurant, located at 2398 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in the former Johnny's Club Carnival, has been in the works since April of 2015. Although the new Corazón will closely resemble the Bremen St. location, which opened in 2009, it will feature a significantly larger kitchen, dining area and bar.
Co-owner Wendy Mireles has confirmed that there will be a number of additions to the Bay View menu. She also notes that their brunch menu -- which features breakfast tacos, burritos, empanada plates, egg dishes and more -- will be even better.
Alderman Zielinski noted that he he had rejected multiple proposals for the space prior to being approached by the the Mireleses. The building, he notes, which was once seen as an eyesore, has been transformed. It’s "astounding" he said of the work that has been done.
"I want to thank Alderman Zielinski for his assistance and for his patience in waiting for our proposal to come his way," George Mireles says. "He clearly wanted a better establishment to come in, and in my humble opinion I believe that is what we have here."
