According to details gleaned today, Camp Bar's owner Paul Hackbarth plans to open a second location for his popular Shorewood bar 6600 W. North Ave., in the old Speedway building.
"We've obviously had great success here in Shorewood, and we feel that Wauwatosa has a similar demographic," Hackbarth says in a phone conversation this evening.
"We really appeal to everyone and have tried to establish ourselves in up and coming urban areas. We think this is a great fit, and we're really excited to be part of the neighborhood."
The new location will be modeled closely after the Shorewood location at 4044 N. Oakland Ave. It won't have a kitchen, but Camp will partnering with a local restaurant to offer food, Hackbarth notes.
Camp Bar, voted No. 1 for "best bar atmosphere" in the 2014 OnMilwaukee Reader's Poll, is modeled after the lodge-like look of Paul and Natalia's cabin in Star Lake, complete with Native American patterns on "stick chairs," classic Up North signage and taxidermied animals. They celebrated their first anniversary this past December.
