The DeRosa Corporation – the owners and operators of Milwaukee area Chancerys, as well as Jose’s Blue Sombrero restaurants and Parkside 23 in Brookfield – announced today that it is closing its Chancery location at 4624 S. 27th St.
After 33 years on S. 27th Street, the company is closing the restaurant and selling the building in order to "put these assets back into the business for ongoing and future development opportunities," according to a news release.
The company will offer an in-house career fair to restaurant's 35 part-time and five full-time employees to join one of the company’s other eight restaurants.
"This location has been a blessing to our company for more than 33 years," said Joe DeRosa, owner, chairman and CEO of the DeRosa Corporation. "The revitalization that has taken place will yield dividends to the next owner. The area has a proven track record of providing quality employees."
In addition, the DeRosa Corporation is officially selling its Chancery Restaurant in Racine located at 207 Gas Light Dr. to Graves Hospitality Corporation of Minneapolis, owner of the Harbourwalk Hotel Racine.
The Chancery restaurant started in 1972 on Highway 20 in Mount Pleasant, which is the current location of a Jose’s Blue Sombrero. It was the first Wisconsin restaurant and pub to feature casual dining and complimentary peanuts. The Chancery’s Harbourwalk location opened its doors on Racine’s waterfront in 1994.
"The business has become more seasonal at this location and the hotel will be able to utilize the property more effectively with its conference business," added DeRosa.
"We are thankful to our many loyal customers who have visited our restaurants over the years," said DeRosa. "We are looking forward to continuing to develop our current restaurant concepts and menus as well as explore future development opportunities. In the meantime, we invite our customers to visit us at one of our other eight locations."
There are four Chancery restaurants now, located in Wauwatosa, Mequon, Waukesha and Pleasant Prairie. The Chancery on Downer Avenue closed in 2007.
