University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students will soon have another caffeine source near campus when the new Espresso Christoph coffeehouse, 3116 N. Downer Ave., opens next week.

The July 16 grand opening of the coffee establishment, founded and operated by Christopher Ocasek, features drink specials, samplings, live music by pianist Eric Klosterman, and an art display of work by Jacob Vyvyan, who also designed Christoph's logo.

Espresso Christoph will feature brewed coffee, hot and cold espresso drinks, a range of signature and specialty drinks and a variety of teas. Ocasek has chosen the Chicago-based Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea company to be his coffee roaster and tea blender, and as a part of his grand opening festivities, Intelligentsia coffee expert Paul Rekstad will hold a Saturday coffee cupping and sampling session from 6 to 7 p.m.

As a continuation of its grand opening weekend, the store will feature Sunday morning tea from 10 to 11 a.m. on July 17 and a Sunday morning guided tea tour and sampling from 11 a.m. to noon with Intelligentsia expert Douglas Palas. All tea samplings are free of charge and open to the public.
