Milwaukee-based sandwich maker Cousins Subs is opening a new store in Mequon at the corner of Port Washington Rd. and Mequon Rd.; one with a twist. Not only will it offer hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts, the new location will also be the only Cousins Subs store to serve frozen custard.

The new Cousins is housed in the same building as the former Freddy's Frozen Custard. It will feature a variety of custard treats, including cones, shakes and malts.

"While we had to make a number of adjustments to put the item on the menu, we feel that the business it will generate will make it worth our while," said Robert Otto, vice president of operations for Cousins Subs.

"We're happy to see a well-known organization such as Cousins Subs take over the space," noted former Freddy's owner Jim Taylor. "Freddy's was a favorite restaurant for many in the Mequon area, and to have Cousins continue to offer custard let's us feel that a bit of its personality will remain."

The new store opens on this Wed., Sept. 26 and will be open seven days a week. Call (262) 241-7010 for store hours.

Cousins William Specht and James Sheppard started Cousins Subs in Milwaukee in 1972. Currently there are 36 company stores with the addition of the Mequon location as well as 125 franchise locations in 10 states around the country. To learn more about the organization, visit <www.cousinssubs.com.
