For the 10th straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2016."
Classy Girl Cupcakes invites kids of all ages to a sweet day at The Domes to celebrate Cupcake Fest MKE, Oct. 15 (fittingly, Sweetest Day) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mitchell Park Domes are located at 524 S. Layton Blvd.
Now in its second year, Milwaukee’s first cupcake festival will offer a variety of attractions, including the new Cupcake Land – a life-sized, cupcake-version of the popular Candy Land board game – and Cupcake Carnival, featuring kid-friendly carnival games with prizes.
Returning attractions will be the interactive Cupcake Factory, where guests choose among flavors of buttercream frosting and sprinkles to decorate their treats; Community Cake Decorating, where guests unleash their inner artist to decorate a six-foot-tall display cake; a scavenger hunt to find Cupcake Crew characters hidden among the plants of The Domes; a cupcake-themed coloring station; and the DJ dance party, with family friendly music by Sound By Design and special performances by "American Idol" contestant Gina Naomi Baez and Milwaukee’s own Stephanie Marie Dance Company.
Also returning is the Cupcake Creation Contest. Each guest may submit one idea. Five finalists, age 8 and up, will be selected by Classy Girl Cupcakes after the festival. Finalists will develop their ideas and bake samples at the bakery with help from parents or staff. Finalists will be invited to present their cupcake at a special event at the bakery, where guests will vote to determine which cupcake will be added to the Classy Girl Cupcakes’ permanent menu.
For a memento of Cupcake Fest, guests can have their photo taken on the celebrity red carpet. Classy the Cupcake Mascot, Olaf (from "Frozen"), a Minion, and the Shopkins Cupcake Queen will be on hand to pose for photos with guests. Photos will be available for free download after the festival.
"Cupcakes aren’t just a fad," said Erica Elia, owner of Classy Girl Cupcakes. "They bring happiness to special occasions and can brighten any day, just like flowers do. This is why the Domes is the perfect venue, and Cupcake Fest MKE is my way of responding to the need for quality children’s activities in Milwaukee."
