It’s been a big year for Daddy’s Soul Food & Grille, a near West Side restaurant which has been serving up a menu of comfort food staples since 2014.

This fall, owners Angela and Bennie Smith nearly doubled the footprint of their inaugural restaurant at 754 N. 27th St., adding kitchen enhancements, additional seating and additional space to accommodate more efficient ordering lines for their dedicated customer base.

And this week, the Smiths opened their second restaurant at 6108 W. Blue Mound Road in Wauwatosa.

Daddy’s on Blue Mound, which is located in a former George Webb’s, will not only extend the reach of the popular soul food restaurant, but also bring breakfast back to a spot that was once a neighborhood staple.

In fact, breakfast is the name of the game during Daddy’s soft opening this week, which focuses on a pared-down breakfast menu featuring egg dishes, pancakes, waffles and build-your-own breakfast sandwiches.

On the menu

Signature dishes include Daddy’s Down Home featuring a choice of meat (bacon, turkey bacon, sausage); two eggs; grits or oatmeal; hash browns and bread ($8.99); Mama’s Down Home with two fried catfish filets, two eggs, grits or oatmeal, hash browns and bread ($9.99); Uncle Mike’s Omelette with a choice of meat plus peppers, mushrooms, onions and spinach ($8.99 with hash browns);  or biscuits and gravy featuring two biscuits, sausage gravy, two eggs and hash browns  ($7.99).

You can also choose from items like pancakes with syrup and whipped cream ($5.99; add fresh berries for $7.99), the Shortstack Breakfast with three pancakes and two sides ($8.99); or Belgian waffles, served with syrup and whipped cream, berries or with fried chicken or catfish ($5.99-$10.99).

Build-your breakfast sandwiches are $5.99 served with fried egg, cheese and a choice of bread (bagel, biscuit, toast); meat (bacon, turkey bacon); and toppings (grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms or tomato).

Starting next week, the menu will be expanded to include a variety of lunch options, including sandwiches, and potentially early dinner specials.

Daddy’s on Blue Mound’s current hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both dine-in and carry-out are available. Call the restaurant at (414) 434-1354, and be sure to follow them on Facebook for menu updates, specials and more.
