An Irish-American bartender in a traditional Irish bar; that's what makes Mo's Irish Pub a great place to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day. Doherty, an area native, is nearly 100 percent Irish with a family tradition of celebrating the Irish way.

Doherty has worked at Mo's for nearly four years and insists he couldn't like anywhere more. He describes it as an "Irish sports bar" and is gearing up to cater to huge crowds on St. Pat's Day with an early start and live music throughout the day. Doherty, who has worked St. Patrick's Day at Mo's for four years, insists it's the biggest party in town.

OMC: What are the plans for St. Patrick's Day here?

Dan Doherty: We are opening at six in the morning and will have live music from open to close. I really would say it is the biggest party -- it's a great time. U2 Zoo is the last band to play and they are always good. We will serve Irish breakfast all morning along with our normal menu and Irish favorites all day.

OMC: What's the best thing about St. Patrick's Day at Mo's?

DD: We get every range of age. There will be a line of college kids outside at six in the morning but then we will also have 60- and 70-year-olds here having Guinness and Irish coffee throughout the day. It's amazing the variety of people that want to celebrate. Everyone seems to be Irish on St. Patrick's Day.

OMC: What's your favorite Irish beverage?

DD: Smithwicks Irish Ale.

OMC: Do you have any St. Patty's Day memories?

DD: Before I worked at Mo's, I would go to the Irish parade with my family. My family's really Irish. My mom would make lunch and then we would go out to celebrate. Just this last Saturday, it was really busy all day for the parade. We had a lot of people standing at the windows to watch the Mo's Irish float come down Wisconsin and then Plankinton. It was incredible to have N.Y. firefighters and police officers in here all day.

OMC: What brought you to Mo's Irish Pub to work?

DD: I started working here when Mo's was the new thing in Milwaukee for an Irish pub. I knew people that worked here and I thought it would be a fun place to work.

OMC: What is your favorite thing about working for Mo's Irish Pub?

DD: A lot of our clientele are travelers; people staying in hotels from out of town and so it's fun to introduce them to the city and make sure they have a good time. Of course, we get big crowds for Brewers and Marquette games. But it really is the travelers who continue to come back every time they are in town.

OMC: What drink do you serve most often?

DD: We serve the most Guinness by far but also, Irish carbombs, black and tans and other Irish favorites. We serve the perfect pint here at Mo's -- our Guinness is poured perfectly.

OMC: Have you noticed any changes since Mo's Irish Pub West opened?

DD: We get more people from that area that now know about Mo's Irish pub and travel down here to check out this location. I think if anything, they have added business for us.

OMC: What do you enjoy about working in the service industry?

DD: I like the service industry because of the people that you are able to meet that you wouldn't if you worked in an office all day. I meet a lot of people and it's really different every day.
