Former Brewers TV announcer Daron Sutton (it's going take time to get used to referring to him that way) starts his new job today.

Sutton will be introduced as the television voice of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sutton, whose contract negotiations with the Brewers dragged through the season and appeared to finally be reaching fruition when the Arizona opportunity arose, said in a recent interview that he hopes the Brewers prosper without him.

"You know my magic touch -- when I leave a job, the team I leave wins the next World Series," Sutton said. "You can plan on the fact that it’s going to be the Tigers of next year here (in Milwaukee) and wherever I am, I’ll be doing like I did in Anaheim (in 2002), begging someone to sell me a ticket."

One thing Sutton won't be doing is begging someone to buy his house. He and his wife, Kristin, and their two daughters plan to maintain their home in Mequon.

"Here is where this story, at least for the next few years, has a different chapter in it," Sutton said. "This to me speaks to this area and my family’s roots here. Guys are different. You know how we are. Most of us can live anywhere, as long as there is pizza and beer and everything in the house works and we don’t have to fix (anything). What we’ve discussed as a group, my wife and my two daughters, is that this is going to be our home. We’re going to do the baseball life. We’ll be the family that has some challenging months in April, May and September and spends the summer together and on off-days comes home.

"But, that’s what we think about Wisconsin. We love it here. We flat-out love it here. That’s honestly what made this decision (to take the Diamondbacks job) really, really tough. If none of us liked it here, this decision would have been made earlier and easier. That’s what made it tough."

While pursuing life as one of those rare people who summers in Phoenix and winters in Wisconsin, Sutton plans to continue two of his favorite side jobs -- broadcasting UW-Milwaukee men's basketball games on TV and hosting "Baseball Saturday" on Milwaukee's ESPN Radio 1510 Days / 1290 Nights. "I'll do that as long as they want me around," he said.
