Before his passing last week, Davey Nelson was working on logistics to celebrate the decade anniversary of an event he founded, the annual Davey Nelson Celebrity Golf Tournament. To honor his legacy and raise funds for his much-loved charity, the tournament will proceed as planned on Monday, June 25 on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Kohler.

Nelson passed away last month after a battle with cancer. In his memory, the tournament will continue to help raise money for Open Arms Home for Children in South Africa as well as Brewers Community Foundation.

Open Arms Home for Children is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, clothing, protection and basic healthcare for what is now home to many children orphaned due to the AIDS epidemic and other family challenges in South Africa.   Nelson served on the organization’s board for nearly a decade.

Brewers Community Foundation is the charitable arm of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club.  The foundation supports non-profits that provide quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs with a particular focus on low-income and disadvantaged youth and their families in Greater Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

"This tournament was one of Davey’s passions as it fostered a unique comradery among all of those involved while also raising funds for a great cause," said brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. "It was important to Davey that we carry on with plans for the tournament, and we know his many friends will appreciate the opportunity to honor his memory on this special day."

The tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a silent and live auction.  Additionally, cocktails will be served prior to a dinner reception following the tournament.

All teams will be comprised of a five-person group which may include current or past MLB players or other sport figures.  Tournament play will be a scramble format with team prizes awarded to the top finishers.  Registrations are being accepted in groups of four or five or as singles.
