Milwaukee Ald. Joe Davis was named chair of the Community and Economic Development Policy and Advocacy Committee of the National League of Cities (NLC) in 2008 on Friday.

"It is an honor to be named to this position. The NLC's goal is to promote cities as centers of opportunity and leadership and there is no better example than Milwaukee," said Ald. Davis, who is also chair of the Common Council's Community & Economic Development Committee.

"Milwaukee deserves the chance to be part of the national dialog on housing, sustainability, workforce development and reliable sources of funding," Davis added in the statement. "I am proud to be a representative of the city and engage the conversation at this level."

The League of Cities aims to ensure that issues facing America's cities are part of the debate leading up to the 2008 presidential elections.
