For the first time since 1985, National Public Radio will launch a new, weekday radio news magazine called "Day to Day."
The one-hour program debuts Mon., July 28 at noon on WUWM, 89.7. Principal NPR correspondent Alex Chadwick will host the show, which will provide midday news, features, updates and commentaries.
The creators of "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition" also conceived "Day to Day."
"'Day to Day' will give listeners NPR substance with a twist: smart, funny, thoughtful, quirky material -- a great break and refresher in the middle of a busy day," says Chadwick. "Listeners will hear updates on key news, original stories and provocative ideas about the attitudes and trends that shape our world."
Because "Day to Day" airs at noon, Terry Gross' "Fresh Air" will move to 11 a.m. "The Todd Mundt Show" will be discontinued.
"While we're sad to see "The Todd Mundt Show" end, we're very excited about the new midday news show with Alex Chadwick," says WUWM Director/General Manager Dave Edwards. "WUWM is excited to be a flagship station for the inaugural broadcast."
"Day to Day" is NPR's first new news magazine since "Weekend Edition," which began in 1985.
