Immersive art experiences are hot – from Meow Wolf’s over-the-top journeys into fantastical realms to more conventional shows like "Beyond Van Gogh" and "Claude Monet: The Immersive Experience." These high-sensory installations allow guests to literally step into an artscape and become part of the extraordinariness.

Currently, 20 local artists, designers, makers and engineers assembled under the name FuzzPop Workshop are working on a new immersive installation called “Deep Lake Future."

The experience transports guests to a surreal underwater Milwaukee where they explore interactive sculptural elements, hidden passageways, a 3D soundscape and state-of-the-art projection mapping.

"Deep Lake Future speculates about a fantastic future in which technology and biology have merged in unexpected ways and explores the impact of invasive species on the Great Lakes," says Daniel Murray, the founder and creative director of FuzzPop Workshop.

During the visit guests uncover the mysteries of giant zebra mussels and radioactive seaweed while preventing invasive species from invading their minds.

The all-ages show will this summer in a 1,300-square foot space at Var Gallery, 706 S. 5th St. It will run though the end of 2023. Stay tuned for the exact opening date.

"We want to mess with people's expectations and have their brains explode about every 20 feet," says Tim Priebe, one of 10 designers involved in the project.

FuzzPop Workshop contributors see this endeavor as a protoype and already have visions of  larger projects in coming years.

"We are excited to create this homegrown installation and see where it leads us," says Murray.
