A week after the release of its ninth album, "Offend Maggie" (Kill Rock Stars), San Francisco's Deerhoof makes its way to Milwaukee for a performance at Turner Hall Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Special guests Au and Experimental Dental School open the 8 p.m. show.

The experimentally playful space-pop trio / quartet has kept it fresh for over a decade, but last year's "Friend Opportunity" became the band's most successful and best-selling release. As for the newest venture, all we've got is the sheet music for the album's first single, "Fresh Born."

Tickets are $12 and go on sale Friday, Aug. 8 at noon. They are available at The Pabst and Riverside box offices, at pabsttheater.org and tickets.com, and by phone at (414) 286-3663 and (800) 511-1552.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
