Milwaukeeans Dasha Kelly and Dan Vaughn have been invited to perform on Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam on HBO.  They fly out to New York City on Tues., Oct. 10 to tape the show that presents up-and-coming and seasoned poets performing their work onstage in front of a live audience.

Kelly, who owns Mecca Lounge, has published a fiction novel titled "All Fall Down"; produced three audio compilations of her poetry; had essays featured on Def Poetry Jam's Web site; and is a contributing writer to local and national publications like Upscale, Black Enterprise, Today's Black Woman and Milwaukee Magazines. As a spoken word artist, Dasha performs her work at venues across the country.

Vaughn, who co-owned Panache, just finished his first novel and has his own complete book of poetry ("I Dream") and two CDs of his work ("I Dream" and "Soul Searching").  He also performs at clubs and venues across the country and Canada where he'll perform Nov. 25 in Toronto.

Air date for the show has yet to be announced.
