Delafield's dining landscape is ever-growing and while you'll still find your fair share of small bar-and-grills or classic supper clubs, new, contemporary and ethnically-diverse restaurants are popping up in Lake Country.
Here is an updated account of what our neighbor to the west is bringing to the dining table. While this list doesn't cover every last eatery, it includes the newcomers as well as several perennial favorites.
Andrew's Bar & Restaurant

Take the stunning elegance of the Delafield Hotel and apply it to the dining scene and you've got Andrew's. Attached to the lobby bar, Andrew's Restaurant serves new American cuisine, specializing in original twists on traditional dishes. Expect New York strips, roasted duck and organic king salmon, but don't expect the fine dining prices that traditionally accompany such entrees.
Backstreet Cafe

Backstreet Cafe is a classic sandwich stop. Thick foccacia, whole grain, sourdough or classic white breads are topped with heaping piles of meats, veggies and cheeses. The atmosphere is casual and quaint; orders are placed at a walk up counter. Glass cases are filled with fresh bakery and beverage options ranging from soda and coffee to wine and beer.
Delafield Brewhaus

What a great place. The large, open interior -- with mezzanine seating -- emphasizes the brewery works and the center of attention, literally, is Brewmaster John Harrison. The Brewhaus offers a variety of seasonal brews. The sampler includes up to eight beers in 4-ounce glasses, and the menu includes entrees, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and wood-fired pizzas.
Fishbones Cajun & Creole Restaurant

Located on the shoreline of Lake Nagawicka, this bright and airy dual-level restaurant is awash with the colors of Mardi Gras. Crawfish spring rolls, catfish tacos, fried oysters and creole chicken quesadillas are just a few of the preliminaries before attacking a list of entrees. Main course choices include sweet potato crusted catfish, bouillabaisse, jambalaya, chorizo-crusted chicken breast and killer shrimp creole.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries -- Delafield

The name pretty much says it all. Uh, except for the hot dogs. The restaurant also serves hot dogs, but, for the most part, this fast food staple serves burgers made to order with a long list of toppings and fresh ingredients. The national chain prides itself on using only fresh, never-frozen ground beef, Idaho potatoes and peanut oil.
Kurt's Steak House

Kurt's is a 50-50 blend of Wisconsin supper club and Rat Pack nostalgia. Going there not only offers a flashback in the form of ambiance and décor, you'll also be drawn back to the days when steaks were served below the $26 mark with soup or salad, mushrooms and potatoes included. Kurt's even throws in a heaping pile of haystack onion rings for good measure.
Loaf & Jug

The Loaf & Jug is not only a quaint hideaway among a town of boutiques, but a great place for a lunch stop. Besides the make-your-own sandwich, which can be piled as high as you like, it also offers a taco salad and you choose you own makings.
Marty's Pizza

Marty's is about as classic as it gets for pizza. The original location opened in Brookfield in 1957 and its been growing its reputation as "home of the five-foot pizza." You can order just about every classic combination of toppings you can imagine, and even those who follow a gluten-free diet can find a pie to eat here.

Chances are, this place is hopping on St. Patrick's Day, what with its ample supple of corned beef, cabbage and Guinness. Then again, every day could be St. Patrick's Day with a menu like that. You'll also find the usual spread of burgers, salads, soups, sandwiches and a great Friday night fish fry.

Owners Thomas and Lynn Saxe used to operate several movie theaters before selling them in 1985, which is why you'll find movie memorabilia and nostalgic nods back to the golden age of cinema in their Lake Country restaurant. The menu boasts the best in surf and turf options, as well as more casual sandwiches, salads and a Friday night fish fry.
Water Street Brewery Lake

Water Street Brewery added its Delafield location in 2000. Both it and the downtown Milwaukee original offer the award-winning beers of Brewmaster George Bluvas III. Six signature beers are brewed in small batches at both locations. In the Great American Beer Festival's award-winning Honey Lager Light, the barley malt, clover honey and whole hops combine for a crisp, clean flavor with floral overtones. The casual dinning offers seafood, steaks, sandwiches, soups and salads.
Zin Uncommon California Italian Restaurant

This Italian eatery, with patio dining (in season, of course), was opened in May 2005 by Dennis Sobczak and Chef Jesse Souza -- owners of Fishbones -- and offers familiar dishes like chicken Marsala, pizza and lobster ravioli.
