This Saturday marks the seventh annual Dog Day Afternoon, a dog- and family-friendly event in Bay View that I mark on the calendar never to miss.

It's a dog-oriented afternoon of fun, highlighted by an actual priest who blesses your pooch (if you're into that) followed by a doggy costume contest. I'm proud to say that I'm once again a celebrity judge, which shows just hard it is for organizer Bill Rouleau to find actual celebrities.

The event kicks off at noon Rocco's, 2860 S. Kinnickinic Ave., then everyone walks up the street to the Immaculate Conception Church. The costume contest is back outside the restaurant.

If you've been before, I know you'll agree that Dog Day Afternoon is a free, fun, adorable and silly event highlighting man's best friend. I'll be there, and I hope you will join me.

Can't make Saturday? Brady Street's Pet Parade and dress up contest is Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
