Entering its eighth season, The East Side Open Market announced today that it is moving from its former Saturday morning slot to Thursdays, from 3 to 7 p.m. The market is still in the Beans & Barley parking lot and runs this year from June 12 through Oct. 9.

"The move to Thursdays will allow us access to even more outstanding organic produce vendors, artists and customers," said Jim Plaisted, executive director of the East Side Business Improvement District. "The great neighborhood vibe will help spread the spirit and enthusiasm of the East Side to the greater Milwaukee area."

Plaisted and the East Side BID hopes the new hours will accommodate residents and employees of the neighborhood by offering Wisconsin certified organic produce, local, handmade arts and crafts items and live music after work and before Jazz in the Park.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
