The "Social Circle" is a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.
Milwaukeeans have strong opinions on where to buy booze. Well, at least members of the Social Circle do.
Here is a sampling of responses posted this week on Facebook. To read the entire thread, go here and feel free to chime in via the Talkback feature.
Cheers!
Jon Adler: "Bert’s. I drink my purchases on the walk home (I take the alleys)."
Barbara Aho: "Ray's and Woodman’s."
Nick Berg: "Ray's Wine and Spirits. Never met guys more passionate about inebriants."
Rick Charlie: "For price and selection, Woodman's and Costco are very good. If you need advice on what to get, Ray's, Discount or Elm Grove liquor are decent."
Jerry Grillo: "My house. It’s closed for today, but very high end."
Christian Kerhin: "Avenue Liquor -- great staff, knowledgeable, and willing to bring in anything you request if they can get it."
Kim Litwicki: "Consumer Beverage in Hales Corners. Family-owned business since 1963. Our family favorite since 1963! Great prices, selection and service throughout the years!"
Tammy Kolbe: "Discount. Because they have shopping carts."
Kent Knapp: "'Pekar's Liquor."
Cortney Lee: "The one on Brady Street because I can walk to it."
Dave Mikolajek: "Town Beer & Liquor across the street from State Fair Park which is also attached to Town Tavern."
Greg Posties: "Otto's on Oakland. Employee owned. Best service ever!"
Jen Skladanek: "Downer (Wine and Spirits). Knowledgeable staff and a local, long-term business!"
Velia Tarnoff: "The one closest to me."
Ryan Wehr: "Discount! I love the smell of the cardboard when you walk in. My fathers used to take me there when they still gave out massive pretzel sticks at the register. It’s a Milwaukee drinking landmark."
Angie West: "Three Cellars because you can buy from their well-curated selection and enjoy right on the spot (beer and wine, anyway)."
Patty Zastrow-Jankowski: "I like Avenue Liquor on Howell Avenue and yes, it's close to me. But I like how it's basically a local mom-and-pop type operation and the people there are so helpful. When I bought close to $300 of alcohol they hauled out everything – and I do mean everything – to my car. Which I parked a block away. In a blizzard."
Adam Zelmer: "Discount on 51st and Oklahoma for selection and price. And it’s close to me."
