’Tis Dining Month, the tastiest time of year! This means we’re dishing up fun and fascinating food content throughout October. Dig in, Milwaukee! OnMilwaukee Dining Month is served up by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino and Wollersheim Winery & Distillery.

Fitzgerald Pharmacy, 424 E. Silver Spring Dr. in Whitefish Bay, originally opened in 1954, but three years ago, the family-owned variety store and pharmacy closed its doors. This weekend, it reopened with new ownership, a remodeled interior and a cute ice-cream and soda fountain called "Fitzy's."

Hashim Zaibak and his cousin, Tamir Kaloti, purchased the pharmacy in 2019, but postponed its opening because of the pandemic and the extent of the renovations. Kaloti and Zaibak also opened 15 Hayat Pharmacy locations in metro Milwaukee.

"People really wanted this family-atmosphere pharmacy back. Pharmacists are the most accessible health care providers and customers appreciate they can stop in and talk to us at any time without an appointment," says Zaibak.

The pharmacy delivers prescriptions to homebound customers and specializes in fitting patients with walkers, crutches and compression socks. The pharmacy also administers flu and COVID-19 vaccines.

The ice cream counter was taken out in 1976, but bringing it back into the new pharmacy was a priority for Zaibak and Kaloti.

"So many people are excited to have it back. Customers told us they grew up coming here or they went on their first dates here," says Zaibak. "We want people to know they can come to us whenever they need to."

Fitzgerald Pharmacy is open everyday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
