For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."

People ask me all the time what's my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee? Well, even if it is Dining Month, I'm not going to open that cans of worms (mostly because I don't have one great answer).

Rather, let me just tell you five different places I love, and maybe you've never visited. Or if you have, maybe it's been too long.

Either way, this list isn't a definitive guide to the best of the best, it's just what I'm thinking about today, and it's spread out genre-wise and across the metro area.

Give these places a whirl, and chime with the Talkbacks below with your picks of places our readers might not have ever tried.

  1. Yen Ching, 7630 W. Good Hope Rd.
  2. Bangkok House, 4698 S. Whitnall Ave.
  3. Organ Piper Pizza, 4353 S. 108th St.
  4. Polonez, 4016 S. Packard Ave.
  5. Jake's Deli, 1634 W. North Ave.
