There's a new club open in Walkers Point, but there's no sign out front, so keep your eyes peeled for the symbol that hangs above the door. It's that fly that gives this place its (unofficial) name, The Fly Bar.

"Any club can have a name, I wanted more of a symbol. Maybe it will help create a buzz," says Roman Torres, one of several owners.

The dual-level Fly Bar opened May 13 at at 606 S. 5th St., across from La Fuente and near the recently-arrived Milwaukee Crab House and Blues Bar.

The Fly's first level has a dance floor, a futuristic green glowing bar and a plethora of spinning lights. The basement lounge has a bar made entirely of concrete. Both levels have DJ booths.

Everything in The Fly Bar is custom-made, even the interchangeable walls.

"I wanted to create something different, something Milwaukee wasn't used to," says Torres, who takes his club and his house music seriously.

"A lot of clubs are turning to hip hop, but we want to keep house music alive. No commercial, no Top 40," he says.

Torres stresses that the music is the most important thing and reels off a list of DJs he'll have spinning at the club, including Alex Blade, Baby Boy, Erik Romero and Jorge Fernandez.

"I'm very strict with the DJs," Torres says. "I have been promoting clubs for the past eight years and I am always up to date with the latest stuff. If you come one week, you'll hear totally different music the next week. Well never play some played-out record."

The Fly Bar was expected to open last week, but there was a mishap with the liquor license, which apparently had an incorrect address, and a planned Young Professionals Milwaukee event had to be moved to a different venue at the last minute. Rest assured, it's open for business now.
