Warning: Things could get wacky.

The first-ever Riverwest Follies Variety Show takes place Saturday, March 4 at St. Mary Czestochowa, 3055 N. Fratney St., at 7 p.m.

The event, hosted by Frank Chandek (of Dr. Chow's Love Medicine), features a fun mix of performances that will -- in the spirit of Riverwest -- cross lines, inflame brains, make the disgruntled chuckle and razzle dazzle non-believers.

Or something like that.

Set to perform are musical groups Blacksky & The Midnight Collective, Jazz Jam Group and Stumblesome. Alamo Basement and The Paris Business Review perform comedy, spoken word artists Peggy Hong (recently named Milwaukee's Poet Laureate), Jacqueline Lalley and Jackie Reid-Detloff take the stage, and Sura Faraj entertains with incredible flag dancing (see photo).

Brew City Cirkus & ScrapYard Sideshow, Murray, Tess Reiss, The Logic of Change, Riverwest Co-op Actual Virtual Theatre, Shadow Show by Vince Bushell and Tim Ladwig and Paul Anders are also on the bill.

Finally, Fasten Clothing Co-op provides a fashion show.

"It's going to be a boatload of creativity, fun and spirit," says Faraj.

The Riverwest Co-op Café and Lakefront Brewery will provide potent potables and delectable delicasies. The cost of the event is $4; $2 for 13-18-year-olds; and free for anyone 12 and under.
