Inevitably, the start of a new year inspires reflection on the events that happened during the last 12 months. For Fond du Lac, this means another chance to celebrate the town's Fondue Festival on Sept. 8, 2007, that landed the normally quiet town a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Fondy made it into the big book after bubbling up the largest vat of fondue in the world, inside a fondue pot weighing 1,000 pounds. The pot -- eight feet long and capable of containing 2,500 pounds of melted cheese -- was in today's Christmas parade in Fond du Lac.

I am still weighing options as to how to spend my New Year's Eve, but one thing's certain: it's going to include fondue.
