The lakefront sky will soon explode with colorful, tricky, massive kites when The Gift of Wings Frank Mott International Kite Festival returns to Veteran's Park.

The event, presented by IKEA, is in its 44th year and takes place Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday Sept. 10. It runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a Grand Launch featuring 600 kites at noon. Parking is free.

After a long absence, FOURCE, a world-renowned precision kite flying team from California, will perform three times each day during this event.

The Chicago Fire kite Team will also fly with four members for the 35th  straight year. Yves Laforest and the Canadian Dream Team from Montreal, Quebec, will make their 23rd appearance with their two Super Giant Whale kites, and their all new 120-foot Trilobite kite and an IKEA Heart kite.

The event also feature Connor Doran from "America’s Got Talent" and Milwaukee's professional kite flyers Mike Delfar and Paul Koepke.

The two-day event offers free kite flying lessons from the Kite Whispererer, Brett Williams and Jim Cosca. The first 100 kids will also received a free kite and the chance to participate in a group launch called "Kids Mad Dash."

Kites, food and drink will also be for sale during the festival.
