After a successful first year, Barnacle Bud's, 1955 S. Hilbert St., once again morphed its cozy beach shack into a vintage Christmas supper club. Aptly named Gene's Supper Club On The River after owner Gene McKiernan, it continues to serve supper club staples like steaks and seafood, but expanded the menu with a bunch of new items.
This year, new Chef/kitchen manager Ben Crevenstein is in charge of the menu and added new items including a wedge salad, a Wednesday night "supper club sandwich," halibut, seafood bisque, sweet potato fries as a potato option and vegetarian Parisian Parmesan gnocchi. Locally owned Buddy's Meat Market is now the meat purveyor and Batter & Mac makes the macaroons.
"(Crevenstein) is a big proponent of using local and working with local businesses," says General Manager Yvonne Walton.
The classic relish tray now includes a scoop of Merkt's port wine cheese and breadsticks along with warm bread in the basket.
The drink menu was also expanded and features more wine options and seasonal drinks along with all the supper club favorites like Old Fashioneds and Grasshoppers.
The decor has an Old Fashioned vibe, while also being over-the-top in true Bud's fashion.
Gene's Supper Club On The River will be open through mid-January. Reservations are required for the supper club and can be made here.
With just eight tables and a few seats at the bar, guests are limited to a 90-minute visit. Early arrivals along with pre-or-post-dinner cocktails cannot be accommodated.
A special New Year's Eve dinner is in the works. Follow the Facebook page or go to the website to find out more when it's announced.
"We're excited for more people to have the chance to experience this unique dining experience," says Walton.
