Adele took the cake at last night's Grammys, but she did leave room for a slice of Wisconsin recognition.
Bon Iver won both "Best New Artist" and "Best Alternative Album" for his self-titled album that came out in March of 2011. The Wisconsin-based alt folk band featuring Justin Vernon was nominated for four nominations for his eponymous record this year on Jagjaguwar – Best Alternative Music Album, Record of the Year (for "Holocene"), Best New Artist and Song of the Year ("Holocene" again).
Foo Fighters' record, "Wasting Light," won Best Rock Album and featured the production work of Madison's Butch Vig.
Milwaukee's Florentine Opera Company's production of "Elmer Gantry" won two Grammys. Robert Aldridge won for Best Contemporary Classical Composition and the Naxos Records release won for Best Engineered Album (classical).
Other Wisconsin nominees included Eric Benet for Best Tradition R&B Performance for his song, "Sometimes I Cry," Nicolet High alumna Tierney Sutton for Best Jazz Vocal Album ("American Road") and Skylar Grey, who was born in Mazomanie as Holly Brook Hafermann, was nominated in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category for "I Need A Doctor," on which she worked with Dr. Dre and Eminem.
