The Urban Ecology Center will host its inaugural HKE MKE, a 2.5-mile benefit hike, on Sunday, Sept. 20. The event, presented in partnership with Bartolotta Restaurants, will go through the trails along the Milwaukee River, beginning and ending at the Urban Ecology Center's Riverside Park branch.

"It’s similar to the run/walk events that everyone is familiar with," said Ken Leinbach, executive director of the Urban Ecology Center, "but this one will take place in a natural area in the middle of the city that many are not familiar with. It’s so beautiful, we’re excited to be introducing this place to new people."

The hike begins at 9 a.m. with a ceremonial start, but attendees can set off down the 2.5-mile route – which features several nature education and activity stations throughout – anytime before 11 a.m.

The goal of HKE MKE is to raise operating funds for the Urban Ecology Center's three environmental education facilities.
