The Hotel Foster, 2028 E. North Ave., does not have a flashing, buzzing neon sign out front that reads "immediate occupancy" but the new bar and cafe is now open and serving wine, beer, cocktails and espresso drinks.

Plus, baked goods are available daily from Peter Sciortino's and homemade paninis and soups / stews will be available on the weekends.

The Hotel Foster is located inside the building that once housed Live on North, Lava Bar and Grill, The Globe and The Boardwalk. The latest reinvention of the space, however, is the most stunning to date.

I popped in earlier today for a quick look (stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for an in-depth article) and was blown away by the pre-Prohibition decor featuring antique furniture, chandeliers and stained glass.

The grand opening party is this Saturday, April 30 starting at 7 p.m. Wildbirds and Shoot Down the Moon are playing and it's a free event.
