Once again, The Gift Of Wings will host two days of free family fun. The IKEA Family Kite Festival, presented by IKEA in Milwaukee and Chicago, takes place Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, in Veteran's Park on the lakefront.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. both days and end at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Both days will have a grand launch of 600+ kites at noon. The first 100 kids to participate in the "Mad Dash" will receive a free kite.

Other spectacles happening over the two-day festival include:

  • The Fabulous Windjammers, a Detroit-based precision kite flying team, will perform three times each day.
  • The Chicago Fire Kite Team will fly with all six members for the 24th straight year.
  • Yves Laforest and the Canadian Dream Team from Montreal, Quebec, will make their 24th appearance with Super Giant Whale kites, a 120-foot Trilobite kite and the all-new IKEA Shark kite.
  • Milwaukee kite flyers Mike Delfar, Paul Koepke and Wow Pro-Style, will perform.
  • Jean Lemire from Montreal will attempt to fly three dual-line stunt kites at the same time.
  • Kite Flying lessons will be available from the Kite Whispererers, Jim Cosca.

The event and the parking is free. For more information, go here.
