The coronavirus pandemic has changed our everyday life, but it doesn't need to change who we are. So, in addition to our ongoing coverage of the coronavirus, OnMilwaukee will continue to report on cool, fun, inspiring and strange stories from our city and beyond. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay informed and stay joyful. We're all in this together. #InThisTogetherMKE

Milwaukee Irish Fest, the world's largest Irish music festival, announced tonight that the event was canceled for this summer. The fest was scheduled for August 13-16, 2020, at the Henry Maier Festival Park.

The organizers expressed that it was not an easy decision.

"After much discussion, monitoring and studying the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Milwaukee Irish Fest," reads the Facebook post. "The decision was made now to help mitigate the growing challenges of the significant planning and upfront logistics required to successfully execute the festival ... Your health and welfare are our number one priority."

Anyone who purchased advanced tickets will receive an email in the next few days, outlining ticket options. Ticket holders will be able to transfer tickets to the 2021 festival, donate their ticket money back to the not-for-profit Milwaukee Irish Fest or receive a refund. Refunds will automatically be issued to anyone who purchased the Failte Club VIP Experience.

The next Milwaukee Irish Fest is scheduled for August 19-22, 2021.

"We will miss seeing you all celebrate Irish culture with us, but look forward to returning to the lakefront at the Henry Maier Festival Park the third weekend in August, 2021," reads the post.
