Jersey Mike's Subs, a franchise founded in 1956 in Point Pleasant, N.J., will open its first Wisconsin and Milwaukee-area location this August in the recently renovated Brownstones Shopping Center at 17550 W. Bluemound Rd. in Brookfield.

Jersey Mike's, according to its Web site, "serves authentic Northeast style subs on fresh baked bread -- the same recipe it started with over 50 years ago." Jersey Mike's has eight locations in Illinois; Gurnee is the closest to Milwaukee. It has more than 450 locations in all.

The local store is owned by Tim Murphy of TMURF Enterprises in Muskego.
