Maynard James Keenan, perhaps best known in some circles as the frontman for Tool, is headed to Milwaukee in June, but sorry prog rockers, it's not for a repeat of his 2007 Summerfest performance.

Keenan will be at Whole Foods Market from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3 not as a rocker, but as a vintner. He and friend Eric Glomski co-own Arizona Stronghold Vineyard and are touring the country to sign bottles of their finest blends.

Keenan and Glomski then head to Chicago to visit two more Whole Foods locations on June 5 (1550 N. Kingsbury St., 4:30-7:30 p.m.) and 6 (1101 S. Canal St., 2-5 p.m.)

Stronghold Vineyard's mission is to present affordable top quality Arizona wine made by passionate Arizona-based winemakers.

"One of our many goals here in Arizona is to establish a cornerstone around which locally owned and operated, sustainable and organic industries can thrive," says Keenan.

It makes sense that he's partnered with Whole Foods Market for this tour. According to his Wikipedia page, he announced in January his plans to open an organic market in Arizona featuring a tasting room for his wines as well as a food court.

And on the Tool front, it looks as though Chicago's Lollapalooza is as close as we Milwaukeeans are going to get to seeing the band live this year.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
