For the second year in a row, OnMilwaukee.com readers decidedly voted The King and I the favorite Milwaukee Thai restaurant. Blowing out the competition,The King and I received over a third of the vote and as the oldest Thai restaurant in the city, it's easy to say their age old recipes aren't going anywhere.
Capitalizing on years of shopping in open markets and cooking alongside their Thai mothers, owners Bob and Marie Phoungphol prepare authentic Thai cuisine just as they learned decades ago. Eager to share their Thai heritage and its culinary distinction, the Phoungphol's opened The King and I over twenty years ago.
Offering over 65 items on the menu, The King and I proudly declares the Volcano Chicken a signature dish; lightly breaded chicken smothered in "volcano sauce." A Thai tradition, the King and I's volcano sauce combines sweet, sour and just the right amount of heat.
