David Letterman told his studio audience during the taping of tonight's show that he was the target of an extortion scheme, and admitted having affairs with some of his female staff members.
He told his audience -- and, thus, his viewers, that he had to testify before a grand jury earlier today about the matter and said he did so to protect his family.
The 62-year-old Letterman married long-time girlfriend Regina Lasko earlier this year.
CBS' "Late Night with David Letterman" airs at 10:35 p.m. weeknights on Channel 58.
