Last week I told you about Take One, Milwaukee's Film's children's festival that takes place during the larger event, Sept. 23 through Oct. 3, and Piemonte Cinema, the Italian film event I'm organizing at Discovery World on Nov. 11-12.

Milwaukee Film is set to release its festival program book soon, but has been letting some announcements slip out via its blog.

Also on tap this autumn is the 23rd annual Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival, which runs Oct. 21-24, but will also feature some events that take place later.

The festival opens with the hit New Zealand documentary film, "Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls," at the Oriental Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 21. It closes at UWM's Union Theater on Sunday, Oct. 24, with the Bahamian drama "Children of God."

New this year is a free "Documentary Salon," which presents repeated screenings of award-winning documentaries chronicling LGBT life.

"We are thrilled to announce this year's Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival line-up," says festival director and UWM Peck School of the Arts Film lecturer Carl Bogner.

"Our revised format gives us more opportunities to showcase LGBT films and videos -- new and classic -- all year long while still hosting a Festival that remains one of the annual highlights for the LGBT and film-loving communities. And, with many films celebrating music, dance, and theater, the Peck School of the Arts is the perfect host."

And for the first time ever, the festival continues after October's main event, with monthly screenings on the first Thursday of nearly every month, beginning Nov. 4.

Complete info on the films and more are at arts.uwm.edu/lgbtfilm.
