New Brewers GM David Stearns made his first big move at this year's Winter Meetings, trading first baseman Adam Lind to the Seattle Mariners for three pitching prospects: right-handed pitchers Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera and Freddy Peralta.
Since being signed by Seattle in 2013 as a non-drafted free agent, Missaki has a career record of 7-6 with a 3.40 ERA and 111 strikeouts through 24 games. Last season with the Class-A Clinton Lumberings, Missaki went 1-2 with a 3.41 ERA in six starts before he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May.
Herrera, another non-drafted free agent, spent his first professional season last year in the Dominican Summer League, going 4-2 with a 3.26 ERA in 14 starts.
Peralta, the third non-drafted free agent received from Seattle in the trade, owns a career record of 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA over the course of three minor league seasons. Last year, he went 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA in 11 games with the Rookie Arizona Mariners.
All three pitching prospects are under 20 years old (Peralta and Missaki are 19; Herrera is 18).
In one season with the Milwaukee Brewers, Lind – acquired in an early trade last offseason that sent pitcher Marco Estrada to the Toronto Blue Jays – batted .277 with 20 home runs and 87 RBI.
