Brent and I took a short break from the Local Music Podcast last week, as WMSE was in the midst of its spring membership drive. The station reached its goal -- thank you, Milwaukee!

We're back this week, starting out the three-song set with Revolush's "Hoot 1,000" off its "Crystal Method Actors" album. Check out the band live this Saturday, May 26 at the upper level of the BBC. If you can't make it, maybe you can hit up the Linneman's Riverwest Inn gig on June 2.

Latin jazz collective De La Buena play at Club Timbuktu this Saturday, May 26 as well, so if you're having a difficult time deciding which of these two shows to attend, take a listen to "Viva Cepeda" off of "¡En Vivo y Directo!" to help you make up your mind.

The Championship is heading out on a summer tour in June, so catch ‘em while you can this Saturday, May 26 at Café Lulu. In the meantime, we play a track off the lauded "Dance Casador!" Please enjoy.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
