Thanks for joining us, folks. We've got a shorty-but-goodie edition of the musical adventure that is the OnMilwaukee.com / WMSE Local Music Podcast. There are so many good local bands, and thanks to technology, they're just a click away. Amazing.
Podcast newcomers The Kents kick things off this time with a live on WMSE track from last year, but rest assured that when the band takes the Points East Stage this Thursday, Aug. 2 there will be a whole bushel's worth of new tasty treats for your listening pleasure. The Kents share the bill with I, Crime, Testa Rosa and White, Wrench, Conservatory. -- who you might remember from such instances as this OMC interview.
WMSE's own Bob Mittnacht and his Crowning Glories -- also known as DJ Bob Midnight, host of the WMSE Local Live each and every Tuesday -- is playing Shank Hall this Sunday, Aug. 5 with The Blasters. Here is "Back in Town," the first track off the self-titled album released last December.
What we've lacked in band quantity this round, Hoss makes up for with a seven-minute space rocker of a song. You can catch Hoss out this Saturday, Aug. 4, playing an all-ages show at the Miramar Theater. My Education and Mutt Junction open the 8 p.m. show.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
