Dressed in a gothy bee get-up, I got to check out The Blue Van, Aberdeen City and The Electric Six at Mad Planet last night. It was hardcore Halloween hullabaloo and we stayed 'til the very end. Today, I am slightly hung over (yeah, the bee got buzzed) but still inspired to rave about The Planet and what a great Milwaukee venue it is.

The classic Riverwest club features a constant stage parade of quality bands. (Side bar: I am forever grateful to The Planet for introducing me to the beautiful rock 'n puppet weirdness of Quintron & Miss Pussy Cat a couple of years ago.) Plus, The Planet's prices are always fair. But the sound is the most impressive of all, and blows away other local venues of its size. I'm no tech kitten, so I can't yammer on about the particulars of the sound equipment, but I did notice the speakers were very well placed and the sound was clear, crisp and encompassing all night long. This has been my experience at every Mad Planet show -- or at least the shows I've been to where my senses were still functioning.

I don't know if The Planet's people spent a lot of time plotting the speaker placement or if they just got lucky, but either way, it always sounds awesome.
