Maria's Pizza, 5025 W. Forest Home Ave., shuttered on Sunday, June 26, as first reported by OnMilwaukee.

The business is currently for sale.

Longtime owners are selling T-shirts, hoodies and mugs on Etsy. The shop is temporary and will soon be taken down, according to Facebook.

Maria Traxel opened the business in 1957 on the corner of 7th Street and Greenfield Avenue. In 1971, Traxel opened a second Maria's Pizza in its current building which eventually became the sole location. It has been operated by relatives since her death in 2020.

Maria's was known for its thin crust, rectangular-shaped pizzas, friendly servers and plentiful holiday decorations.
