I hope you enjoyed my first blog about what the Brewers did right in 2010. It's true, I love baseball and I can't wait to play it again professionally, but I also love other sports (NFL, NCAA and video games), music and good TV.
Here's a little bit about what's dominating conversation in the McClung household this week:
The Randy report: Mr. Moss, I understand where you're coming from. The New England Patriots just don't seem to hand out to many contracts during the season (unless you're Tom Brady). Look for Moss to have another huge year. The West Virginia native will command a lot of interest after this season, then again, you never know about the NFL and their lock out situation.
Look out, lock out: Speaking of the NFL, their union better step up to the plate. It may be unpopular to think of rich athletes complaining about money or benefits but if anyone had the right to complain about their current agreement it would be the NFL. On HBO's New York Jets show, Kellen Clemens was called into the office and told to take a pay cut or he would be cut. Didn't he sign a contract? Why in the NFL are they not obligated to those contracts? If you want to end hold outs, why don't you guarantee the contracts of the workers who put themselves and their quality of life on the line each and every day they go to work? The chances of you getting hurt in the NFL is 100 percent. At least the Jets gave Kellen a couple of days to think about it.
Bruce Pearl in trouble with the NCAA? Those who are perfect cast the first stone. OK, maybe when he threw stones in the past he was perfect. Maybe now he feels a little less self-righteous than he did when he was tattletaling back in the day. I am not saying you should be allowed to cheat and break the rules, all I am saying is no one likes a tattletale. The life lesson what goes around comes around applies here.
Video games I am playing right now: I am playing NCAA Football right now, I am really enjoying the dynasty feature, and my Virginia Tech squad is doing very well -- unlike in real life. I am also close to finishing up Alan Wake. Alan Wake is a story of a writer who gets thrown into a paranormal world based on his own writings. I like games with a little challenge but a lot more story. This game falls nicely into that category.
Current disappointment: Linkin Park's new album is, well, weak. I loved their first three albums, and I even liked the spin off, Fort Minor. The new album, "A Thousand Suns," has come out and its nothing like the first three. "Hybrid Theory," "Reanimation" and "Meteora" are all albums that would be in my top 15 of all time. I think I listened to "Reanimation" for about eight months straight before listing to anything else. I previewed this new album on iTunes but after the slower and less Linkin Park-like "Minuets to Midnight," this album continues down the same path.
Currently on the TV in the McClung household: Want a good laugh? Check out "Tosh.0" on Comedy Central. When I am killing time during the day when my 1-year-old is taking a nap, I'll check out "Attack of the Show" on G4. After Stephanie and I get her down and finally get "Horton Hears A Who" off the TV we reach into the DVR and pull out "American Pickers" and "Pawn Stars," both on The History Channel.
Seth McClung pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2007-2009, but broke into the Major Leagues with Tampa Bay in 2003. The West Virginia native is now a pitcher in Taiwan.
McClung, a popular player during his time in Milwaukee, remains connected to Brewers fans through this blog on OnMilwaukee.com.
"Big Red" will cover baseball in a way only a player can, but he'll talk about other sports, too. The 6 foot, 6 inch flamethrower will write about life outside the game, too.
