Ald. Mike McGee, Jr., who has recently made headlines for a variety of brushes with the law, issued a public apology Thursday. His statement, which alternates between contrition and accusation, is apparently in response to revelations that McGee had an extramarital affair.

McGee currently has a restraining order from a woman who claims he impregnated her. He has also petitioned the Clerk of Courts office to legally change his name from "Michael Imanu Jackson."

Here is the transcript of McGee's statement:

"Today, I would like to formally apologize to my Creator, wife, family, constituents and friends for the humiliation and embarrassment I have caused them. I must admit that I exercised poor judgment, and personal carelessness when I selfishly involved myself in an extramarital affair. After a year of being stalked and harassed, I was physically attacked. The individual in question has physically attacked me and harassed my wife. Subsequently, I decided to ask the judicial system for protection.

Given my recent arrest in Civil Court, I believe there is less than equal protection under the law for elected officials. I merely was attempting to protect my family from the physical threat and apparent danger of an individual coming to my residence, public, or private meetings with the intention of intimidating and harassing me.

From this day forward, I plan on moving ahead and serving selflessly with full focus on my duties as Alderman of the 6th District, and I will continue to serve my constituents with the highest level of reliability, dedication and conviction. My wife and I are diligently working to restore our marriage. I will not stop advocating for the disenfranchised people of the City of Milwaukee until justice prevails."
