HeartHead, a new non-profit mental health organization, will host a fundraiser called “MeatFest – No vegetables allowed.”
MeatFest is a barbecue cooking competition for chefs of all skill levels.
The carnivorous fun will take place on Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pritzlaff Courtyard behind the Explorium Brewpub, 143 W. St. Paul Ave.
Professionals and amateurs are invited to sign up as "Pitmasters" and grill, smoke, broil or roast ribs, sausage or chicken wings.
Go here to register as a Pitmaster. The cost is $100 and includes the meat. Pitmasters need to bring their own cooking vessels.
There is not an entry fee for attendees, but tickets to sample the meats will be for sale. Attendees will decide who takes home the coveted Meatmiser Award. The top prize is $250 and a traveling turkey leg trophy. The runner up will receive $150.
The event will include a silent auction with items including a LeRoy Butler autographed Hall of Fame jersey along with items from other local vendors, festivals and concert venues.
HeartHead's mission is to make therapy affordable and attainable to anyone, regardless of financial status or insurance coverage. HeartHead also provides positive psychology coaching.
"This event is a beautiful and delicious way to wrap up Mental Health Month," says HeartHead founder, Andy "Riggs" Riggle, who is also the morning DJ on 103.7 KISS-FM.
