Eyes are on Milwaukee in 2020. That’s thanks, in part, to the attention drawn by our shiny new Fiserv Forum and superstar NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo as well as the forthcoming Democratic Convention. And those are likely factors in the city being chosen as one of the top (19) places to eat in 2020 by the staff at Eater.com.

But when your city is mentioned in a top read foodie publication, you don’t split hairs about the reasons why.

Impressively, Milwaukee is mentioned as one of only three U.S. cities (East Village, New York City and Oakland, California being the other two), on a list that includes climes across the globe from Lagos, Nigeria and Pristina, Kosovo to Marrakech, Morocco and Santiago, Chile.

That’s high praise for a city of our size. But it’s also well deserved. After all, we’ve seen a decade of growth (and refinement) in our dining scene resulting in a landscape doppled with a diversity of restaurants that range from classic and quirky to award winning.

As Milwaukee freelancer Todd Lazarski writes: "...high or low, old or new, pierogies or Pisco sours, goulash or James Beard-level gastronomy, a bag o’ curds or goat cheese curds with chorizo cream sauce, there’s a lot to eat, and even more to consider, in Milwaukee right now."

It’s a statement that should make us all shake our heads in fervent agreement.
