The end is near for those trying to find street parking in Milwaukee -- it just won't be today.
The Department of Public Works Thursday announced that the snow emergency declared Tuesday will remain in effect until noon Friday in order to assist DPW crews in widening of streets and plowing from curb-to-curb.
"Although streets are generally in good condition, some are not adequately cleared to allow for parking and through traffic," said DPW spokeswoman Cecilia Gilbert.
Parking will be allowed on Milwaukee Public Schools playgrounds from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Friday. For a list of available lots, log on to the DPW Web site or call the Department of Parking Enforcement at (414) 286-8350.
