Readers of Condé Nast Traveler, a magazine designed for the discerning frequent traveler, ranked Milwaukee County's General Mitchell International Airport the easiest in the country (a No. 1 ranking in the category Ease of Connections).
In addition, MKE was the fourth best in the nation in the following categories: Location/Access, Design, Customs/Baggage, Perceived Safety/Security and Food/Shops/Amenities. In 2006, Mitchell ranked fifth overall.
The 10th annual Readers' Choice Awards appear in the magazine's October 2007 issue.
In a news release, airport director Barry Bateman noted that the more than $50 million expansion and renovation of all three-airport concourses includes additional security checkpoint lanes, additional boarding gates, new ground-level gates, larger airline gate seating areas, wider corridors between gates, and atrium and clerestory windows that let in more natural light.
Our airport, in case you were wondering, supports 13 airlines that offer nonstop and direct flights to more than 90 cities in the United States and one-stop connections to major cities throughout the world. It is the 49th largest airport in the nation in terms of number of passengers and 34th best in number of destinations served nonstop.
