Why you can’t miss it
Modest Mouse is band full of contradictions. Look no further than their album names for proof: "The Lonesome Crowded West," "Good News for People who Love Bad News," "Strangers to Ourselves." Even still, the greatest inconsistency about Modest Mouse is the fact that this quintessential Indie band could break through to become such a well-known mainstream rock act. Although they had an intense but niche fan following from their inception in the mid-1990s, the band gained significantly wider attention in 2004 with the release of the single "Float On." Saturday’s show at The Rave will be a treat for both the die-hards who have been with Modest Mouse from the beginning and the more casual fans who will be sure to recognize the hits from the radio.
Song starter pack
The Hit - "Float On"
The song that jettisoned Modest Mouse into the mainstream and on to your radio takes a decidedly more optimistic tone than much of their other work. It’s a welcome breath of levity that argues that, even when it seems like everything is going wrong, things will work out in the end.
The B-Side Beauty - "Dramamine"
From way back on their debut album, "This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About," this song exemplifies the classic Modest Mouse sound especially the out-there guitar twangs.
Can’t Wait to See it Live - "The Good Times Are Killing Me"
A song about having a little bit too much fun. One thing is certain: Hearing this on Saturday night will be a good time.
